Núñez proposes expanding access to affordable housing, strengthening public safety, and addressing the community’s infrastructure needs

As she seeks reelection to represent District 1 on the San Marcos City Council in the November 3 election, María Núñez is pursuing an agenda focused on affordable housing, public safety, infrastructure, and economic opportunities for families and local businesses.

An attorney and San Marcos resident for 45 years, Núñez connects her personal and professional background to the needs of the community she represents. In her public statements, she emphasizes that the opportunities and inequalities she has witnessed in the city have shaped her work as a community advocate and public official.

Among her priorities is improving access to housing that families can afford, given the financial pressures facing working households. She also proposes addressing food insecurity and creating conditions that allow small businesses and families to participate in local economic development.

Núñez says that during her tenure, she has supported infrastructure investments, initiatives to strengthen public safety and policies aimed at expanding employment opportunities. She has also promoted measures related to civic participation, equity and sustainable economic development.

Her election to the City Council was also connected to community efforts to expand Latino representation in local government.

During her campaign, Núñez received support from a group of women volunteers and community activists who organized outreach activities and direct contact with voters. The mobilization sought to increase electoral participation in an area where, according to accounts of that campaign, Latino voter turnout had been low.

Looking ahead to the November 3 election, Núñez proposes continuing her work and addressing the needs of different segments of the city. In her message, she maintains that opportunities remain to improve quality of life and build a more inclusive and prosperous community.
